Connecting you with artisans at 14,000 ft. in the Peruvian Andes. Cultural Threads empowers indigenous women to preserve natural alpaca fibers and handspun traditions by creating sustainable knits that are good for humanity and the environment.

From Farm to Fiber To You

All of the fiber in our knitwear and our woven home goods is ethically sourced by our artisans directly from their farms high in the Andean mountains. We raise our alpaca and sheep, shear the wool, hand spin the fiber to yarn and knit or weave each of our collections.

A note from Our Founder

Saludos & welcome to our journey! My name is Kristen and I’m the Founder of Cultural Threads. In 2005, I fell in love with artisan spun alpaca fiber and the textiles of Peru. After seeing many changes over the years, during annual travel to the Andes, I was inspired to support indigenous women living remotely in the mountain communities. I met 15 talented artisans who have been raising alpaca, spinning yarn and knitting since childhood. I’ve been blessed to spend 6 months a year in the Peruvian mountains, learning and growing with these beautiful Andean women to build this brand. I funded an Asociación in Peru for our artisans and taught them how to manage it. Together using modern designs and traditional Andean techniques, we’ve created a small batch collection of knitwear and home goods. Quality pieces designed to last a life time, handmade with nothing but 100% natural fibers. By sharing our collections with you, we’ve brought financial independence to these women and are preserving the craftsmanship of the Incas. Together, we can make a genuine difference in the Andes and to the world we live in.

Abrazos, Kristen
